Personality: Very cuddly, loves to be held and pet and will run up to handlers and strangers a like for affection. Extremely playful and curious and has a lot of fun playing with toys, especially blankets. When hes not playing or cuddling he's usually taking a nap underneath his favorite blue blanket. We're not sure how he reacts to other animals yet since he's been housed by himself his entire life after his family died at a young age. We believe he'd do well in an exhibit with other animals since he enjoys the attention of others and has never shown any ill intent.


History: He was born in the wild to a loving and over protective mother. Shortly after his birth they were attacked by a dog. His mother did her best to hide him well she distracted the dog. Thankfully after a few bites the dog soon lost interest and left, possibly returning to its owner. His mother didn't appear to be hurt too bad from the initial attack but she died a few days later possibly from infection.

At first Pete was oblivious to his mother's death assuming she was just tired and so he slept along side her. Thankfully some hikers spotted him cuddling with his mother's corpse and took him in. It wasn't until he noticed his mother's lack of protection that he released she was no longer alive.

The hikers did their best to care for him until they were able to get him to a vet. After being given a clear bill of health the veterinarian contacted the zoo system to find a new home for the tiny hutia. It wasn't too long after that Lucky Encounters was called and they took him in as their newest addition to the zoo.

The staff here all love him and take turns feeding and playing with him. If you didn't know any better you'd think Pete had been born at the zoo, even Pete seems to forget this at times. He's growing up fast and loves his new home. The only thing missing from his life now is others of his own kind.

    Notes:
        - This is a Rescued Animal! He was found by his mother's corpse who had died from injuries. Needs to be hand raised.
